The Night Circus

The Night Circus

Author: Erin Morgenstern

As the rêveurs following the Night Circus on its seemingly unpredictable trail to be swept away by circus’ magic night after night, I found myself waiting for the selfsame experience while reading. Morgenstern’s  flowing prose glows prettily through the narrative, adding to the books dreamlike meta-quality, but unlike waking after some strange dream and not being able to shake it, this (book)dream grows distant and fuzzy minutes after getting up. This is probably my main complaint about this otherwise sometimes even gorgeous book: it didn’t stay with me. Make no mistake, it’s still a worthy read; there’s magic of all kinds, love, intrigue, mystery and, of course, the circus. I loved it (who couldn’t after this book’s great first sentence?), safe for the small voice telling me that it could have been so much more…
